My Family
Dear Expectant Mother,
Hi, I'm Kathy
Thanks for taking the time to read about me. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and welcome you getting to know me. I am very excited to become a mom through open adoption.
my family, friends & me
I'm originally from Dallas, Texas but my family moved to Greenville, South Carolina when I was 2 years old. South Carolina was a great place to be a kid. We had a huge backyard and lots of neighborhood kids to run around with. We ended up moving back to Dallas when I was 10. This is where my brother, sister, and I all went to middle and high school. My parents are still married after 47 years. My dad is a former Air Force fighter pilot from Missouri and can tell quite the tall tale. My mom is also from Texas. She's really active and is always working on different community fundraisers.
My entire family now lives in San Diego, California. My brother, who is a Pediatrician, was the first to move to San Diego. My parents moved there soon after he and his wife had their daughter (she's now 6), so they could be near their granddaughter. My younger sister couldn't resist California either. She's a web editor who occasionally acts in independent films. My family talks often and visiting is just a quick plane ride away. My mom is practically booking tickets now because she can't wait to have a new grandbaby! Everyone is very excited about adopting and is looking forward to having a new member of the family.

My Dad and I
I have a wonderful community of friends in San Francisco. My friend Amy is a single mother, and I'm her 9-year-old son's godmother (she'll be my child's godmother). She's a role model to me and has been very supportive as I go forward with adoption. I'm able to see firsthand how she's raising her son to be a healthy, kind and smart child. I have THE BEST friends - some are married with children, and some are single. All of them are extremely happy about my choice to adopt. J
my work & home
I have a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Architecture. I worked as an Architect for several years before realizing that I wanted to pursue a different career path. It just wasn't as enjoyable as I had expected it to be.
I now have a fulfilling job where I work on the website for one of the largest beauty companies in the world, selling makeup, skincare, fragrances, etc. I like being in charge of a vision, and being relied on for my expertise. It gives me a wonderful sense of accomplishment and I really enjoy working with my coworkers. I feel fortunate that my job is stable and secure, and will allow me to provide a great life for the future.

Traveling in India
My home is in San Francisco, just a few blocks from the Bay. It's light-filled and comfortable with lots of art and photos (some made by me). My neighborhood is very family-friendly with lots of stores and restaurants nearby. The park across the street from my house has a new playground and the Bay is an easy walk even with a stroller. Someday soon, I hope to get a dog too.
things i like to do
I'm a pretty adventurous person and like to get out and explore the world. So far, I've studied in Italy and India, and traveled all over Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean. I speak decent Italian, and a tiny bit of Spanish and French. Although I still plan to have more adventures, I know that when the baby is little, those adventures will be close to home. However, I'd eventually like to explore the world with my family.

Carving Pumpkins with a Friend
I've been practicing yoga for seventeen years and have two teaching certifications. I feel that yoga helps ground me and provides wisdom to live in this sometimes-crazy world. I also enjoy riding my bike, hiking, swimming and hanging out with my friends over a nice dinner. I'm passionate about independent films, art, architecture, design and contemporary fiction. I also love to cook Italian (chicken piccata is one of my specialties).
as a mom
I'm adopting a child because I've always felt that I was meant to be a mom. Although I hope to be married sometime in the future, I'll continue to wait for as long as it takes to find the right man. I'm finally at a place in life where I'm confident that I can provide a wonderful home for a child, and feel that I'm mature enough to do whatever it takes to provide the best life for my family.
Education is very important to me, so I'll definitely support and encourage my child to go to college, or to follow the path that he or she feels is interesting. I'm very curious about and open to different heritages, cultures and religions. Whatever my child's background may be, I'm committed to supporting them in learning and experiencing their ethnic heritage and culture. I'll provide an environment where my child has the freedom to explore. Just as my parents supported me, I'll stand behind my child in the choices that he or she makes. My main hope as a parent is to raise my child to be happy, self-confident and know that they are loved.

for now...
I hope that you were able to learn a little bit about me and get a sense of who I am. I'm happy to be pursuing an open adoption and feel that it's important for my child to grow up knowing you, be it from early on or later. I want to support your views of future contact as well.
