We are Brian and Renee. We respect the love and care you are showing for your child. It is clear that your adoption decision arises from a great act of love. We appreciate that you are allowing us the chance to tell you about ourselves and hope that you will consider us to be the adoptive parents of your child.
About Us
We have been married 12 years and are the proud parents of Kathleen, who we adopted at birth 2 years ago. We dated for three years and after becoming engaged, an accident rendered Brian partially disabled. The accident affected our future, but not our love or commitment. Not many couples have experienced the overwhelming love and support we received from our family and friends after Brian's accident. Announcing our intention to adopt brought about the same emotions. In the summer of 2005, God blessed us with a wonderful birth mother from Ohio and we welcomed Katie. We have stayed in touch with Katie's birth mother and her family. We would like to do the same again and are open to the level of communication you are comfortable with. We are excited to welcome another child into the circle of love and support we continue to experience.
About Renee (By Brian)
Renee is a wonderful, loving Mom. She loves reading and is nurturing a love of books in Katie. She loves spending time with Katie -laughing, playing and singing songs. Renee was born and raised on the central coast of California. She attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and obtained her CPA Certificate. When we started the first adoption process, she resigned her position as Chief Financial Officer and moved to a different accounting position. This allowed her to stay at home when Katie was born and eventually returned to work three days a week. It's the perfect balance for her - she enjoys her job, but loves being a Mom! She would like to do the same when we adopt our second child. We have a nanny come to the house and since I work from home, there is always a parent at home. I have experienced first hand, through my injury, Renee's depth of love and commitment. She could have easily backed out of our engagement without any criticism. Renee's love of family and her values are vital traits for a parent. She is terrific with children and displays an enviable patience with them. Her understanding of Katie's behavior amazes me.
About Brian (By Renee)
Brian is a very proud Papa! Brian works from home, so he is able to spend more time with Katie than most fathers. Katie loves to ride with Daddy on his wheelchair, snuggle during a movie or play chase. "See daddy" is an expression we hear a lot around the house. When Brian gives his heart to someone, he does so completely and unconditionally. When I first met Brian, the thing that struck me the most was his sense of humor - kids and adults love laughing and joking with him! He was raised in Marin County and attended college at Chico State. He took an opportunity to become self-employed through investing and has been doing so for the last nine years. He has coached 13-15 year olds in baseball and we have season tickets to the River Cats baseball team, the AAA affiliate of the Oakland A's in Sacramento. He's always enjoyed music. Growing up, he played piano, trumpet and guitar. Today, he listens extensively to all types of music. He is very excited that Katie is showing an interest in music and wants to support and encourage her as much as possible.
Katie
Katie is an absolute delight. She is a loving, active and social little girl. Katie loves her books (The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a favorite), musical instruments, dancing, bubbles, swimming and playing ball. Katie is in a playgroup and Renee and Katie have attended a Mommy- and-me gym class since Katie was 7 months old. She loves the class, has developed a great sense of balance and you should see her somersault! She is a Mickey Mouse fanatic. When the cartoon comes on, she gets so excited, she runs around the house yelling "Mickey Mouse" so that we can come and watch it with her. We know Katie is going to be a great sister and companion.
Home
We live in Sacramento, California. Our home sits on an acre of land and we have a bedroom set aside for the new baby. Our yard has a pool (with a safety cover), a large expanse of lawn, and paths perfect for riding bikes and scooters. Katie loves to play outside and we can picture two kids playing hide-n-seek, chasing each other, looking for ladybugs and enjoying the yard. All of our family is in California and Brian's parents, brother and his family also live in Sacramento. We appreciate having our families so close and involved in Katie's life, especially her doting Grandmas! Our friends and family know they are always welcome in our home and we enjoy hosting get-togethers and summer barbeques by the pool. Katie really enjoys interacting with other children during these events and the neighborhood is full of children. Brian is the President of our Home Owners Association, which sponsors events such as a 4th of July bike parade, Christmas caroling with a Santa visit and summer garden tour and barbeque.
We are looking forward to completing our family and want to provide another child with an abundance of love, affection, attention and a sibling! We believe in letting a child explore their interests and abilities within a stable and secure environment. Both of us were raised in a traditional family - which emphasized education, school activities and family life. We are
repeating those experiences with our own family. Because education is important to us, we have already set aside funds for college. We have numerous friends and family who have been touched by the adoption process both as parents and as children. Your child will have plenty of interaction with others who have been adopted.
We appreciate the time you've just spent reading about us. We would enjoy getting to know you. Please feel free to contact us at 1-866-681-9620 or our friendly adoption attorney, Susan Romer, at 1-800-U-ADOPT-US. We can't imagine what a difficult decision this is for you, but please know that you are making a dream come true for our family.
Thank you and best wishes,
Brian and Renee
