Dear Expectant Mother,
Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We are so excited about growing our family and becoming parents. We know you are facing many big decisions and we would feel honored to be considered as adoptive parents for your child. We hope to share a little bit about ourselves in this letter. We look forward to a raising a child with a healthy, fulfilling connection to his/her birth mother.
About Us
We met when we were just setting out on what felt like "life's big adventure" after college. While Luis was already living in San Francisco finishing up college, David came to visit a friend from high school. After knowing each other just 3 short months, David packed his bags to join Luis on a lifelong journey. We have been very happy together ever since and have become a part of each other's families, built our careers, and have traveled the world together. David is a passionate entrepreneur and has built three successful software companies. Luis has had a very fulfilling career as a graphic artist and is taking time off to prepare our home for a little one and is looking forward to being a stay at home parent.
Our relationship has remained strong for a long time because we both value open, honest communication. We truly enjoy each other's company, share a passion for the outdoors, love to travel and open our homes to our friends and family. And both having a good sense of humor is a big help too!
Our Family
We are very close to each other's families and love to spend summers with David's two beautiful nieces, who live in Germany, and Luis's nephew, who lives in Colombia where Luis grew up. We enjoy teaching them English and about American culture with fun activities like camping and horseback riding.
Our families and friends also frequently visit and stay with us. We have given a lot of thought to how important our families are to us, and how much we love being adoring uncles. We are now ready to add a new member to our warm, fun-loving family.
Our home
We own a restored Victorian-style house in a vibrant neighborhood of San Francisco. We look forward to sharing Bay Area's diverse culture with our child, by going to movies, museums, and shows. We feel fortunate to also own a ranch home in Sonoma, which is just an hour north of San Francisco. On weekends, we escape to the warmth of the great outdoors where we hike, swim and cook.
About Luis (The Artsy One)
I was born and raised in Colombia, South America in a tight-knit family comprised of my loving parents, four children, and many relatives. When I was 16, my younger brother was born. This was my first experience of caring for a newborn and I knew then that I wanted to be a parent someday. My native land gave me a passion for the outdoors, music, food and dancing. Growing up, I was a competitive swimmer and I'm very excited about giving our child swimming lessons.
I moved to San Francisco to attend college in the early 80s. I also wanted to pursue my passion for photography, graphic design and to perfect my English. I knew quickly I wanted to make San Francisco my home. Soon after I met David, I knew right away that he was the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life and start a family with.
About David (The Business Guy)
I have put my artistic skills to work as a graphic designer helping educate doctors about new drugs and products through medical illustrations. I am now taking time off to prepare our home for a little one. I look forward to being a stay at home dad.
One of my biggest passions is travel and ecology. I've been lucky enough to spend time in Madagascar as part of a scientific project to preserve the wild cats. A few years ago I decided to fulfill one of my life's dreams and become a pilot. I also enjoy gardening, cooking and entertaining family and friends at our ranch. I'm very excited about sharing my love the outdoors with a child.
I was raised in Illinois by two loving, supportive parents. My older brother and I remain close even though he lives in Germany now. I studied Theater and Music in college and I still love to sing. I have been successful in my career as an entrepreneur and software executive. I am the CEO of a software company I founded 4 years ago. I enjoy my work very much and I'm excited to share the fruits of my success with a child. I love to be around children and help them learn.
A child in our home will join in our many sing-alongs and dance to music like Salsa and Cumbia (music that Luis grew up with). Years ago, I learned Luis's native language, Spanish, so I could get to know his family. We are now very close and I love to visit Colombia to practice my Spanish. I'm excited that our child will be raised in a bi-lingual home. I take regular voice and dance lessons and love to share music with my friends who play guitar and the piano. We have regular "music nights" where we share music from classical to folk songs to rock. I also enjoy hiking and exercising and look forward to sharing all these interests with a child.
Our Background and Beliefs
We both grew up in strong, loving families that continue to play very important roles in our lives. As a result we deeply appreciate how important a loving family is to raising healthy, happy children. Although neither of us has strong religious ties we appreciate the importance of spiritual development and will encourage our child to explore different beliefs and develop his or her own understanding of faith. We were both taught, "God is Love" and believe that unconditional love is the basis for being great parents.
Both of us strongly value hard work, learning, and taking time to enjoy life. We appreciate that a strong commitment to education is the key to success and that commitment begins with one's parents. Our families both highly prize education and enjoyed sharing the success that came from it with families and friends. This is the heritage that we come from and one we are very excited to share with our child.
