George and Shea

Dear Expectant Mother,

George and Shea We have great respect for the incredible love and generosity involved in considering adoption. We are George and Shea, and have been happily married for almost 9 years and are overjoyed at the thought of making a child the center of our lives. Thank you for taking the time to read about us. We have wanted to become parents for a long time and we feel ready, able, and excited to begin our adoption process. We believe that through adoption, you can create a loving path for your child’s future, a decision made with courage and thoughtfulness!

About Us

We have known each other for over 11 years and have shared a lot together.  We have experienced the passing of loved ones and the birth of new lives. Through everything, we are great friends, and inspire each other. We are in love and are committed to each other and to our families. We feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel and have seen a lot of the world, from Africa and Nepal, to Europe and Central America.  In our experiences of meeting other people from around the world, and learning about their culture, we have grown in our appreciation of the value in the unique gifts that each culture has to offer.  These experiences have allowed us to embrace and value differences in each other and in those we meet. We will welcome the culture of the child that we adopt.

We live in Northern California, about one hour north of San Francisco, near the Russian River. George re-designed our beautiful home, which was originally built by a local stonemason.  It is situated on top of a hill with views of the valley’s rolling vineyards. We have a wonderful organic garden from which Shea has whipped up many a tasty meal.  Nearby are excellent trails and parks for exploring and hiking. Our community has a variety of great schools to choose from, including both Waldorf and Montessori schools, as well as several excellent public charter schools.  We also have the benefit of enjoying two nearby farmer’s markets, which are chock-full of kids and dogs. We love our warm community, and whether we’re going to a parade, a concert or just a walk in the plaza, it seems that we’re always running into friends. We are both just as happy in our own kitchen, cooking dinner and being homebodies, reading by the fire.

Shea describes George

George George is a photographer, sculptor and architect who also coaches youth sports at a nearby high school.  Born and raised in California, George obtained his Master’s degree in Architecture, but really finds his inspiration in both sculpture and photography.  He has been coaching varsity soccer and tennis for the past 7 years.  George is a natural teacher who relates easily to kids, and has been an inspiration to his students, as well as their parents. George has also spent over 20 years working for a small foundation which is dedicated to supporting community-based organizations working to advance social justice, equality, and build a healthy, sustainable environment. A simple example might be working with a group from a neighborhood to ensure that a nearby industry takes the proper steps to stop polluting their local streams.

The most important thing that can be said about George is that he is a man ‘from the heart.’  George’s parents instilled in him the value of contributing to society, and from their guidance, George made a decision to focus his life’s work towards those pursuits that offer the opportunity to make a difference.  I can’t think of a greater thing to teach a young person. He is an extraordinary man – multitalented, sweet, strong, fun and caring, and I know he will be a wonderful father

George describes Shea

Shea Shea is a singer, songwriter and holistic massage therapist.  She teaches voice to students of all ages, and has found that she enjoys working with kids more than anything else! Originally from Texas, Shea has been involved in music her entire life.  She has also been deeply interested in holistic health and spirituality for many years.  Shea moved to Southern California for college and worked in the Film and Television industry during the day and sang in the evenings. Having settled in Sonoma County, and being Godmother to two of her best friends’ kids, Shea is more than ready to be a mom. She loves all kinds of music, art, reading, organic food, and time to take a good walk.

Shea was born with music as an integral part of her and our home is filled with music and melodies from her heart. She is very positive and finds the beauty in everyone and everything.  Shea is an open person who is always there for her friends and family. She is smart and has a great sense of humor. One of the most curious people I have ever met, Shea loves to research and discover new things –whether it’s a recipe, a health remedy or a jazz arrangement.

Our Family

We are each blessed with a great family network. George’s family is a tight-knit group who loves to spend time together, helping each other with projects, taking trips and celebrating holidays. His parents, who have been married for over 50 years, live on a wonderful ranch in Montana with horses where our family often gets together. George’s George and Shea's Family oldest sister also lives in Montana with her two daughters. George’s older sister lives nearby in Sonoma County, and has two children who are in college.

Shea’s side of the family is fun-loving and always up for anything.  She is very close with her father, and after her mother passed away in 1998, he remarried one of George and Shea’s dear friends. Shea’s father and his wife are bi-coastal, living in both Washington D.C. and California. They travel often and frequently pop in for a visit at our home. Shea’s brother and his wife have three hilariously adorable kids and her stepsister and her partner, have just adopted their son.

About Parenting

We would love to guide a child to adulthood with love, care and intelligence. The world, at times, can be a big, complex place and we both know how important family is as a place where you can always come home. We believe a child should be given the opportunity discover their passions, and then be encouraged to follow his or her own path. We would provide a solid and loving foundation for them to do so, and the structure and resources that a child needs to succeed.

We look forward to supporting a child in their efforts to excel in their education and to experience the world with all its beauty and diversity.  We feel that it is important to teach a child to learn respect for self, for others, and for our beautiful planet. We see our roles as parents as unfolding in several stages.  For us, it’s important to begin with fun: playing in the yard with our child, being silly, singing songs, reading books and basically living a full, loving and friendly life together.  Yet we also place great value on showing a child how to structure his or her life – how to schedule school activities, homework, relationships, career direction, and all that goes with becoming an adult. As parents we will give our child the opportunity to explore the variety of experiences that life has to offer, while always being there for them, no matter what.

We believe in open adoption and will be supportive to a child as they develop and help them to understand their family origins.  We believe that a child will benefit from knowing who they are, what their ethnic heritage is about, as well as information about their birth.  All human beings deserve the right to ask questions and receive honest answers.

George and Shea We are both fully dedicated – loving, warm people who can’t wait to spend the rest of our days playing outside, helping with homework, driving to school or practice, or just enjoying a family meal together. Because of the flexibility of our schedules, we will be equally and enthusiastically sharing our roles as parents.
