Jill and Joe

JillJoy1Dear Expectant Mother,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our letter. We are Jill & Joe. We hope by reading our letter you will gain a sense of who we are as a couple and how we hope to expand our family. Our hearts are with you as you consider the difficult decision of adoption. We believe that placing a child for adoption is one of the most loving things that anyone could ever do. We look forward to getting to know each other better.

We have been happily married for almost 5 years, but have known each other for 10 years. We met at work, when we were both working as attorneys in northern California. We immediately became good friends and from the moment we met, we loved being together and found that we had so many things in common. As time went on, what started out as friendship grew into the deep love that we share today. Our marriage has been a wonderful journey together. We have shared many adventures here and all over the world - adventures we hope to share as a family someday.

We love to travel - whether it is a trip home to visit our families, to Europe or to any place that we have never been before. We also love going on walks and hikes together, going to baseball games, catching movies or making dinner together at home (particularly grilling outdoors). We like winding down in the evening reading books, playing board games and listening to music.

JillJoy2Where We Live:

We live in a sunny, 3 bedroom home that we own in a town just 20 minutes south of San Francisco, California. We share our home with our cat, Holmes, who is the most affectionate cat we have ever met. We have a big back yard for barbeques or a game of catch or soccer. We live a few blocks from a great park with a playground and several hiking trails. We also love that our house is in a nice residential neighborhood (with great neighbors and lots of kids) but we are close enough to San Francisco, so we can visit and take advantage of everything it has to offer.

In addition, we live near several good public and private schools. Education is extremely important to both of us, as it was to our parents. We feel that our education has helped us both to not only build successful careers but also to truly appreciate everything the world and other people have to offer. Education will be a very important part of our future family.

Joe about Jill

JillJoe4Jill grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with her mom, dad and older sister. Her parents still live there and we frequently visit. Jill's mom, a retired schoolteacher and her dad, a semi-retired scientist, still love to travel. Growing up in New Mexico, Jill developed a great love of wide-open spaces and the outdoors. She attended both college (where she majored in Economics and Political Science) and law school in New Mexico before she moved to California in the late 1990s. Jill currently works as an attorney, litigating against landlords who violate safety codes at their rental properties. Jill enjoys her work because she feels like she makes a difference in tenants' lives. She also loves the flexibility that her job has to offer.

Jill loves to read and learn, whether it's history, fiction, magazines or the newspaper, Jill will read anything she can get her hands on and shares what she has just learned. She has taught me so much over the years about things that I had never known (don't get her started on British history).

Jill is the best friend anyone could ask for - always there to lend support, to share the good times and the bad, and to have fun, too. It's no surprise to me that she is still close to so many of her friends from high school and college. More than anything, Jill has the most nurturing, loving soul of anyone I've ever known and it shows in everything she does. Whether it's making us dinner, giving me a hug at the end of a long day, or snuggling with our cat, Jill just showers you with affection, love and support - all of which I know she will do ten times over as a mother.

Jill about Joe

Joe grew up in Arcadia, California (near Los Angeles). Joe is half-Mexican, and his mom, who is fluent in Spanish, is a second grade school teacher and teaches primarily Spanish speaking children. Joe speaks a little Spanish and is trying to learn more! Joe has always loved to participate at his mother's school, and has been known to fly down to Arcadia to help his mother distribute gifts of books to the students.

JillJoe5Joe attended college in southern California, where he majored in English, before moving to northern California for law school. Joe now works as a Deputy District Attorney, prosecuting homicide cases. He is passionate about his work and he really cares about doing his part to try and make this world a better, safer place.

Joe has a love of outdoors that is always inspiring to me. He loves hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing, skiing, scuba diving and snorkeling. I did not grow up near the ocean and Joe was the first person to show me the wonders of the ocean.

If I had to find the words that would best describe Joe, they would be fearless, compassionate, curious, loving, and loyal. He also has the biggest heart of anyone I've ever met. Joe has a large and loving group of friends and he is known as the organizer, always getting everyone together for movies, baseball games, trips to Lake Shasta, and many other activities. Some friends Joe has known since high school and are like brothers to him and he is the godfather to one of his friend's son. Seeing Joe with his godson (who absolutely ADORES Joe), I know what a fabulous father he will make. Joe always makes time for his godson - whether it's to play Star Wars games, watch his soccer games, or just talk to him about his day. I know that Joe will approach fatherhood as a dad who is always encouraging and will support any path that a child chooses to take in life.

Our Families

We love to spend time with our families, which is one of the many things we hold dear to our hearts. Jill's sister, who now lives in Sacramento, is married and has two children - a son (9) and a daughter (12). Over the years, Jill has spent a lot of time with her niece and nephew, sharing new things whether it's a waterslide or a new book or school project. Jill also has a large extended family throughout California and Washington State who we also visit regularly. Joe's mom and his large extended family, still live in Southern California, near where he grew up. Joe will often fly to Southern California for the day just so that he can surprise his beloved 86-year-old Grandmother and spend the day with her. We feel very fortunate that our parents like each other tremendously and talk to each other regularly - whether we're involved or not! We both love the holidays and spending Christmas and Thanksgiving with our families. We even sometimes celebrate them all together as one big family!

Raising a Family Together

JillJoy3We have both wanted a family of our own for a very long time and have spent a lot of time thinking about how we would like to raise a family. We want a child to grow up in a home filled with love, warmth and laughter, someplace to feel safe and secure. We hope to show them the world and all that both our country and other cultures have to offer. We are also able to provide whatever type of education will be best for our child. We want our child's life to be filled with fun, adventure and most of all love. We both know we have a lot of love to share and want more than anything to spend our lives helping our child to grow up to be loving, compassionate and happy adult.

If we are lucky enough for you to chose us to be your child's family, we can promise you that your child will be loved like no other. We feel so blessed with the love we have for each other and the life that we have built together, and we are excited to share it with our future family.
