Lisa

Dear Expectant Mother,

My name is Lisa and I appreciate your taking the time to read my letter. I truly respect your courage and strength in considering adoption. My hope is that after reading and learning a little bit about me, we can talk and get to know each other better. I want you to know that a child will be raised with loving kindness and in a home where he or she can grow and thrive, and always be well-cared for and unconditionally loved.

About Me

I was raised in Cleveland, Ohio by a single mother and grandmother. I have one older sister and both she and my Mom now live in Grand Rapids, Michigan. My sister is a middle school teacher and has three children. Sadly, my dad passed away from liver disease when I was a teenager. This experience helped to make me a strong, caring person and led me to appreciate the importance of a parent in a child's life. Although I have lived in California for 17 years, I will always be a Midwesterner at heart.

Thanks to the support and commitment of my mother, I was able to attend the University of Michigan and earn a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. I also received my Masters Degree in Business from the University of Pennsylvania. I have built a financially successful life as a managing partner and one of the owners of a handcrafted tile company here in Northern California. We make beautiful tiles for people's homes all over the world. It is a creative business and we make all the tiles from scratch. Our company is very family oriented. I feel fortunate that as an owner, I can set my own flexible schedule, which will enable me to be a very hands-on parent.

I am very close to my Mom, sister, nieces and nephews. I see my family several times a year as I often visit them and they come to stay with me regularly. My family is extremely supportive and they are excited about my decision to adopt. They plan on spending a lot of time visiting during the coming years! We also take vacations together. The last vacation we took was to the warm Caribbean during the Christmas and New Years holiday.

In my free time, I am passionate about many things including yoga, gardening, travel, photography, and creating a beautiful, warm home environment. I have both a very creative and practical side to my hobbies and work life. I also really enjoy hanging out with my good friends, and I am known to host fun "film festivals" with pizza and movies in my home on rainy days. I have a strong group of close friends who are also like family to me and really look forward to supporting me when I become a new parent.

I have also been fortunate to travel to many places in the world including Australia, Mexico, and countries in Europe and Asia, as well as to many places in the U.S. These experiences have truly contributed to making me an open-minded, curious person through experiencing different cultures in our world.

My Thoughts About Parenting

I was previously married and, although we are no longer together, we remain friends and business partners. During our time together, we tried to have a child through in-vitro fertilization. Although that did not happen, my desire to be a mom continues to be strong. I am very excited and grateful to have the opportunity to adopt and be a parent. I truly enjoy children of all ages. I am a patient and loving person and participating in a child life every step of the way. I am a kid at heart, so games, fun, and most of all...laughter...are, to me, some of the important aspects in creating a happy and healthy home environment.

A balanced life has always been very important to me. I recognize the value of education in my own success, and I look forward to supporting and nurturing a child's endeavors through good education, as well as travel, art, and sports. Travel has been an important part of my education and it is an important element of life with my family and friends. I also hope that by exposing a child to a variety of cultures, it will help him or her grow and develop an open perspective on life. I am committed to helping a child develop his or her own personality and interests, and I am fully prepared to be supportive and nurturing parent.

My Home

I own a 3-bedroom home in Healdsburg, California. The home is on a cul de sac in an area that has many families and is close to our town center. My next-door neighbors are wonderful and both have children. Healdsburg is a small town about an hour north of the San Francisco. It is a small community and there is a high level of parent involvement and support directed toward school, recreational activities, music and art. There are several preschools and several excellent elementary schools nearby. There are also beautiful parks within walking distance of my house.

I have two adorable animals. My dog CeCe is a 15 month Chocolate Lab and Dolce is a 10-month-old kitten. They are both loving, very playful, cuddly and love to chase each other in my yard.

A Note From My Niece:

My Aunt Lisa has always been someone who is very special to me. Whenever we spend time together or talk on the phone, I am reminded of why I love her so much. She is one of the MOST caring and loving individuals I know. She is like a second mother to me, especially because I know I can trust her love and support. I look forward to the special time we spend together, talking, laughing, and having fun! I know my Aunt Lisa will be an amazing mother.

Blaire, Lisa's Niece
