Mina and Ruben

Dear Expectant Mother,

We know that you have read many letters, and we appreciate you taking the time to read ours. We understand the significance of your decision, and we can assure you that we will provide the best home for your child where support, security, laughter, and unconditional love are always present.

We are a well-educated, fun, multicultural, and cool couple in our early/mid 30's with established careers. We both adore children, and our strongest desire since our marriage has been to become parents. We enjoy every opportunity to spend time with our nieces and nephew, and our friends' children. We are eager to provide a child with the best opportunities in life, help them build a bright future, and be the best parents we can be.

About Us

We have been together for twelve years and have been married for seven. We are best friends and love each other very much. We enjoy traveling the world, playing sports, exercising together, cooking, and hanging out with our family and friends.

We met in Los Angeles, and since then have lived in New York, Boston and San Francisco. We love travelling, and together have visited over twenty countries. We plan to share with our child the opportunity to experience diverse cultures and languages and to have adventures both in the United States and abroad. Both of us have the experience of being first or second generation immigrants to the United States and have built successful, happy lives on a foundation of loving, supportive families, hard work, and education-the same opportunities and values we wish to introduce to our child.

About Ruben by Mina

Ruben is the finest person that I know, and I am not just saying this because he is my husband and best friend. He is kind, compassionate, loving, extremely intelligent, and super funny.

Ruben was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. His family emigrated from India and worked hard to realize the American dream. Thanks to his family's values, support and hard work, Ruben received an excellent education. He studied psychology at UC Berkeley, then continued at the University of Southern California, graduating with both a medical degree and a M.B.A. He then pursued his medical residency and fellowship at Harvard University. Ruben is also multilingual, speaking Spanish, conversational Mandarin Chinese, and Hindi, as well as English. In his practice, Ruben takes care of patients who suffer from chronic pain. He is an extraordinary physician, who offers not only high quality medical expertise, but also empathy, kindness, and compassion. Last year, Ruben decided to join a medical mission and volunteer at a small hospital in Haiti. I am so proud of him, and even after a long day in the hospital, Ruben always brings home a positive attitude and a big smile. He is appreciative of our blessings in life, such us being healthy and happy, loving each other, and having great supportive families. He is my soul mate, and I have no doubt that any child will be lucky to have such an inspiring role model as a father.

About Mina by Ruben

Mina is the most caring, beautiful, and committed person that I know. She is a strong, capable woman. Mina grew up in Bulgaria, Eastern Europe. After Mina graduated from high school, her parents invested their life savings so that she could move to the United States on her own to pursue her education. Working full time to make ends meet, Mina graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in business before moving on to law school in Boston and graduating with honors. Remarkably, she did all of this within ten years of coming to this country. Mina now works as an immigration attorney at a prestigious university. She helps international professors and researchers who need visa sponsorship to work in the United States.

Mina values family more than anything else. She has an extremely close-knit family, and still considers her older sister to be her best friend. Mina is multilingual, speaking Spanish, French, Bulgarian, and Russian in addition to English. Mina is stylish, fun, cool, creative and spontaneous. She makes the most out of every moment, something that any child would be fortunate to experience. She is an amazing cook. Several years ago, Mina went to Bulgaria for a summer law internship and returned with the Jack Daniels' barbecue competition first place award, later competing in the world championships. Her passion for cooking is reflective of her passion for life and her unique ability to share that creative and positive energy with her family and friends. Mina is also an avid reader and a great storyteller. She is very patient with children and happily babysits for our friends and family. She is going to be a caring and loving mother, seeking the best for our children.

Our Families

Both of our parents have been married for almost 40 years, and we appreciate their example and the limitless opportunities that they have given us. Ruben's father is a University professor and his mother works in a hospital. He has one brother who is married and has two beautiful nieces who also live in Los Angeles. Mina's father is a computer programmer, and her mother is a newspaper editor. Her sister has one child and her family loves visiting us in San Francisco. The last time they visited, we took a nice trip down the coast to Southern California. We brought her little nephew to Sea World and Lego Land in San Diego, and he cannot wait to be back for more adventures. We travel annually to Bulgaria where we like to spend our winter or summer vacations. We also visit Ruben's folks in Southern California often. All four grandparents look forward to welcoming a child in our lives and spending more time with us.

About Our Home

We live in a spacious home on a hill in a beautiful neighborhood in San Francisco. Our house has a lovely garden with flowers and fruit trees where a child can play and enjoy the outdoors. Nearby there is a great park with the most amazing views overlooking the city of San Francisco. We enjoy inviting guests over to our home, so having friends and play dates with their children will remain an important part of our lives.

Our Thoughts On Parenting

We both have wonderful role models in our parents, who have worked very hard to provide a secure and happy home for ourselves and our siblings. They instilled in us values that include honesty and integrity, the importance of education, a striving for excellence, hard work and perseverance, respecting and helping others, and the strength offered by family. We hope to pass many of these values on to our child. Our intention is to have Mina work part time to spend as much time as possible with our child, and we look forward to sharing with him or her a life full of love, joy, and the opportunity to pursue his/her dreams, whatever they may be.
