Cindia and Rick

Dear Expectant Mother:
Our names are Rick and Cindia. We want to thank you for taking the time to read our letter. We realize that you are facing a difficult decision and we are honored that you may be considering us as parents for your child. We wish you the best during this adoption process and know that your decision will be made out of love.
About Us…
Our story began when Rick found a sad, abandoned puppy at work one day. (Really the puppy chose Rick. She could tell that he had a soft heart). Rick lived in an apartment that didn’t allow dogs; so he bought a house so he could keep the puppy, which he named Pepper. Cindia’s best friend told her about a nice guy she met who “bought a house for his dog.” We met, we fell in love and we have been married for 13 years.
In 2006 we adopted our daughter, Rose. Becoming parents is the best thing that has ever happened to us. We spend a lot of time playing and laughing. We are experiencing a whole new world as parents… petting zoos, the pumpkin patch, kid’s carnivals. It’s so much fun. We really enjoy being parents and we would like to share our joy with another child through adoption. Rose would love to have a sibling. She is good with little children and is often complimented by other mothers about how gentle and loving she is with babies. She would be a great big sister. With another adoption our family would not only be bigger, it would be better and more fun!
About Cindia…
Cindia grew us in Marin County just north of San Francisco, California. She is the fourth of six children (three boys and three girls). Her parents were married for 55 years and her mother still lives in the house where Cindia was born. Cindia attended College of Marin and San Francisco State University where she studied Child Development and Education. She is also an artist and has worked as both a Marketing Specialist and a Scientific Illustrator (a job that requires a lot of patience, which Cindia definitely has). Cindia’s hobbies are drawing, knitting and basically all types of art and crafts. She also loves being outdoors, walking and gardening. She enjoys preparing meals with the fresh vegetables from our garden and she makes natural soaps, salves and lotions from the herbs she has grown. Cindia is currently a stay-at-home mom, the best job that she has ever had!
Rick says about Cindia…
“Sometimes Cindia and I talk about why we were put here on Earth. Cindia’s answer is always the same, that she has known since she was a small girl that she was born to be a mom and raise children. For the first 12 years of our marriage, I watched Cindia be a super aunt to her nieces and nephews. Cindia is a natural with children. Then Rose came into our lives and Cindia has proven to be a wonderful mother. She spends every day with Rose, nurturing her in positive ways. They spend lots of time outdoors where Cindia teaches Rose all about nature. She is a caring, warm and loving mother.
About Rick…
Rick grew up in Los Angeles, California. He is the middle child of three boys. His parents have been married for 64 years. Rick attended the University of California at Santa Cruz where he majored in Religious studies. He later decided to take his desire to help people in a different direction and went to UCLA Law School and became an attorney. He has spent most of his career helping clients who were dying from lung diseases. He also has a small business that produces and sells an environmentally friendly camping product. After adopting Rose, Rick realized how important his time at home is so he took an attorney position in San Francisco that allows him to work only four days a week, one of which is from home. In his free time Rick loves to play with Rose, read, listen to music, walk, help out around the house and spend time with Cindia.
Cindia says about Rick…
“Rick is a loving, caring and thoughtful man. He writes notes, buys cards and flowers, and calls from work to say he’s thinking about us. Most people who meet Rick instantly like him. He’s smart, funny and most of all kind. Rick is a wonderful daddy who loves and cherishes Rose”
About Rose…
Rose was born in January of 2006. She is a happy child who likes to sing and dance. She loves people and is sweet and affectionate with them. She adores our cat, Peabody, and our dog, Shayna. We know she will love to help and care for a little brother or sister. Rose spends her mornings walking with mom, dad and friends, and then plays outside, draws or paints, reads books, and sings and listens to music. She really enjoys attending her Kindermusik class once a week.
Our family values…
We both grew up in close-knit loving families with strong values such as honesty, generosity and kindness. Family was, and continues to be, most important to us. Our families valued education and encouraged us to pursue our interests. We both share those same values today and intend to pass them on to our children.
Between our two families there are many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, second cousins and grandparents. Every Friday we have “family day” at Cindia’s mom’s house. Cindia and Rose spend the day with grandma and she cooks a family dinner for anywhere from seven to fifteen of our family and friends. We also have family gatherings every month or two to celebrate birthdays and holidays. When we get together there are always lots of food, laughter, love, hugs and family!
Our home…
We live in Sebastopol in Sonoma County, California. It is a beautiful, small, country town that is less than an hour north from San Francisco and twenty minutes from the ocean. We can run to the beach or take a short drive to the City to do things like see the Nutcracker Ballet at Christmas time. We have a large comfortable house where our families gather to celebrate holidays. Our house is on a half-acre of land. We have a small orchard with twenty-five different types of fruits, a vegetable and herb garden, a hedge maze, and a lawn area. There is lots of room for a child to play outside, to run and explore.
We feel very grateful for our marriage, Rose, and our home and family. We are excited to expand our family through adoption. We want you to know that we will provide your child with a home full of love, security and education and we will encourage him or her to pursue their interest and talents. We look forward to getting to know you and are very open to developing a relationship with you now and for the future. We will respect the level of contact that you feel is comfortable for you.
