Debbie and Paolo

Dear Expectant Mother,

Hello! We are Debbie and Paolo and we appreciate you taking the time to read our letter. We admire your courage in this time to find loving parents for your baby. Hopefully through this letter we can tell you a little bit about who we are and the wonderful life we want to offer a child – a life of love, respect, security, warmth and laughter. It is also our sincere desire to learn about you and support you in your journey.

We live just north of San Francisco. We first met when Debbie was visiting Rome, Italy in 1993. Debbie stayed in Rome, we fell in love, and a year later we got married.

Soon after we got married, we became aware that we would have to undergo infertility treatments to become pregnant. After several years, Sarah was born. We now need and want to grow our family through adoption and look forward to the arrival of another child.

We have been living in Northern California for three years and love our new life here! Italy stays in our hearts and is very present in our lives. When we are home, we speak Italian so that Sarah doesn’t forget her first language. Our experience of living in Italy for 13 amazing years was such a gift to us - we feel so blessed to have another language and culture in our family and are so excited to share this with our new baby!

About Debbie (by Paolo)

Debbie is a warm, loving woman. I love it when she bakes me cakes for my birthday, makes her eggplant parmesan to remind me of the flavors of Italy, or surprises me with tickets to see my favorite basketball team. She loves spending time with our daughter Sarah. She sings her lullabies every night, plays with her in the bathtub and always invents silly stories with finger puppets.

Debbie grew up in the Bay Area before her stint in Italy. She currently works part time as a kindergarten teacher and learning specialist and has her Master’s Degree in Special Education. She volunteers in a reading workshop program.

Debbie’s schedule allows her to pick Sarah up everyday from school. In the afternoons, Debbie and Sarah are busy going to the park, meeting friends for ice cream or going to the local library.  Sometimes, Debbie takes Sarah to her kindergarten jewelry making class at her school called “Bedazzle with Debbie”. They make bracelets, decorate jewelry boxes and always come home with fun projects to share.

Paolo (by Debbie)

When I met Paolo, one of the first things I noticed was his charming accent. He is energetic, has a great sense of humor and is always willing to try new things. Paolo is a true Italian who grew up in Rome, Italy. He was a realtor in Rome for 14 years and now works for a well-known real estate company in Marin County. He loves his job and has a flexible schedule that allows him to take days off to spend time with his family.

Paolo loves being Papa to Sarah and cannot wait to do it all over again with another child! When he isn’t working, he spends his time taking Sarah to the park, going for bike rides, teaching her the art of Italian soccer or simply going for walks downtown to get pizza. Oh, and he always reads Italian fairy tales to Sarah before bedtime!

Paolo lost his parents when he was very young and he and his brother grew up with his grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. He has always dreamed of adopting a child to give him or her the same opportunities he was given when he was taken in by his extended family.

We are very close to Paolo’s family in Italy. We talk to them weekly using a web cam so that they can see us and talk “face to face”. We make a yearly trip to Rome to visit family.

Our California Family

We love spending time with Debbie’s family. Sarah’s “Nonno” and “Nonna” live in San Francisco and Debbie’s sisters, nieces and nephew live about an hour away. We spend our holidays together and often meet on weekends for lunch, to go to the theatre, or shop at the farmer’s market. They adore Sarah and can’t wait for a new baby to join the family!

Sarah

Sarah is a happy, joyous child who makes friends easily and loves playing with other children. She enjoys kindergarten as well as her dance and swimming lessons. Last year when we took her to the mountains, she even learned to ski! She loves to draw, especially pictures of our cat Phoebe, and she takes great pleasure in going to mommy’s school to hold the bird and snake in her classroom. When her daddy gets home from work, she loves doing puzzles and playing hide and seek with him. Sarah can’t wait to become a big sister.

About our House and Our Neighborhood

We live in a suburb, near San Francisco California, in a two story house with a beautiful backyard. There are lots of kids in the neighborhood that are often outside riding their bikes and roller skating when the weather is nice. The public schools are excellent. There are hiking and walking trails just outside our home and we belong to a tennis and swim club that is right down the street. The beach is nearby, and the mountains for skiing and summer outings are only two hours away.

 Our Hopes, Dreams and Values

We have learned so much during these past years with Sarah and feel as parents that children are gifts to us all. We feel that our role is to provide our children with a home full of love and laughter; a safe, secure place to grow up in so that they can become who they are meant to be! We feel that children should be raised to care about others, about the world they live in and to have respect, understanding and appreciation for different cultures and traditions.

In considering our children’s futures, we always end up thinking about what is important to us. As parents, we hope to communicate the importance of kindness and to encourage a lifelong love of learning and discovery. We will create and offer our children opportunities to learn about the things that interest them and pass on our passion and love of travel and exploration.

We thank you for allowing us to tell you about our lives and why we are so excited to expand our family through adoption. We are eager to hear from you and look forward to meeting you and learning about your hopes and dreams for your child.
