Jeff and Greg
Hello,
We are Jeff, Greg and Lucas from sunny southern California. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We greatly admire your strength and courage in considering open adoption. Our son, Lucas, joined our family through open adoption three years ago and it has been a wonderful and loving experience. Our hearts and our home are now open for another addition to our family and we look forward to getting to know you and working together with you towards a positive and healthy adoption.
About Us
Soon after meeting over sixteen years ago, we knew right away we had each met our life partner. Our relationship — built on love, respect and friendship — has continued to strengthen now that we are Daddy (Greg) and Poppa (Jeff).
We have found that communication is very important to furthering our relationship and being good parents. We take time every evening to talk and laugh together which we feel brings us closer and helps us to better understand each other.
We love to be outdoors. In the summertime, we enjoy wakeboarding at the lake, exploring the tidepools at the beach, riding our bikes and going on hikes. Our favorite winter pastime is skiing and snowboarding. We often spend weekends and holidays at our Lake Arrowhead cabin with our friends and family. It is a great place to enjoy the outdoors by going on a hike or boating, or staying indoors reading and playing games by the fire. We look forward to sharing these activities with our children.
Becoming parents and watching Lucas grow has been an incredibly rewarding experience for us and has opened a wonderful new dimension to our lives. We cannot express the love we felt when he was placed in our arms three years ago at birth. That moment was amazing with our feelings of love for Lucas and the love for his birthmom. She is the “Angel” who made it possible for us to raise a child. We look forward to similar special moments that we can share with another child — playing together, reading stories before bedtime and taking family trips. Through love and laughter, we hope to instill our values, respect and good manners in the children we raise.
Jeff (Poppa)
I am a partner in a law firm and specialize in trademark and copyright law. I went to college in Wisconsin and attended law school in Boston. As for my hobbies, my nickname, “Chef Jeff” sums it up. I love to cook and bake and look forward to fixing meals for my family. Holidays are a favorite time as I can cook, bake and decorate our home. The oldest of four children, I grew up on a farm in Michigan and lived very close to my grandparents and several cousins. My sister and two brothers and their families still live in the Midwest (Ohio & Michigan). My mom moved to California a few years ago and lives nearby so we see her almost every day. “Grammy” loves to spend time reading, cooking and playing with her grandchildren. Coming from a home where there was a lot of family activity, I look forward to watching our children grow up together as I did with my sister and brothers.
Greg (Daddy)
As a stay-at-home parent, I enjoy my part-time landscape design business and keeping track of the family calendar, organizing school days, and handling swim lessons, play-dates and our family vacation plans. My passion for the outdoors, gardening and nature comes from growing up near a pine forest in Texas. My parents, brother and two sisters along with many nieces and nephews live in Texas. Soon after completing my business degree in Austin, Texas, I moved to southern California. At our home, I have created a great environment for our children with a unique collection of plants, a fish pond, bird feeders, statues, sitting areas and pathways – a perfect hide-and-seek backyard! I have always wanted to have children and am basically a kid at heart. My greatest joy is watching children as they encounter new discoveries.
Lucas
Lucas is a sweet-natured and cheerful little guy whose laughter is contagious. He recently started preschool at a nearby church — close enough that he can walk to school. Lucas loves to swim and takes lessons during the summertime. While his interests are always changing as he grows and is exposed to new things, his current favorite activity is playing with his race cars and pretending he’s a race car driver while riding his bike. He also loves baseball and soccer, playing in the backyard sandbox and swimming in our pool. He loves to play with other children and will make a wonderful big brother.
Our Home
Our home, located in southern California, is only ten minutes from Disneyland. When deciding where to live, our goal of having a comfortable and relaxed home with a big yard, a pool, lots of fruit trees and a great community became a reality. It didn’t take too long before Sadie and Tucker joined the family (our two Jack Russell Terriers). Our neighborhood is filled with children of all ages and offers a variety of organized activities for the kids throughout the year as well as excellent schools.
Our Values
We believe open adoption is truly beneficial to everyone involved. Ongoing contact with Lucas’ birth family has been an extremely positive experience for us. We appreciate that Lucas will grow up knowing his birthparents throughout his life and feel fortunate to have a close and comfortable relationship with them.
Our goal as parents is to provide a warm, happy and supportive home for our children and create lasting and loving memories. We are fortunate to be financially secure and able to provide a comfortable living for our family. Watching our children grow up with their cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles is important to us. Our community of friends also plays an important role in our lives.
We both recognize the value of education and want to provide every opportunity for our children to pursue their education as well. We also consider travel to be an important part of an education and it is a key element in our lives. Seeing other places is an opportunity to experience new adventures and cultures. We hope that by exposing our children to a variety of cultures, it will help them grow and develop a better perspective to their lives. Every year we visit our friends in Santa Fe, New Mexico and also make trips to see family in Michigan and Texas. We also look forward to taking our children to some of our favorite destinations like Hawaii, Puerto Vallarta, Paris, Rome and Buenos Aires.
