Kitt & Cyndi

Dear Birth Mother,

We understand that this must be an emotional time for you and appreciate that you are taking the time to learn about us. We respect your choice and know that it comes from a place of caring for your child. Let us introduce ourselves - we are Kitt and Cyndi. We have been together for over seven years. Our friends have told us that we are the most 'in tune' couple they know. We have built a warm, fun, comfortable life together with a cozy home and lots of friends and family.

About Us

We own our home in the Santa Cruz Mountains, half way between the beaches and boardwalk in Santa Cruz and the high-tech world of Silicon Valley, where Kitt is a Software Engineer. We are close enough to Santa Cruz, San Jose, and San Francisco to take advantage of the many theaters, museums, parks, art centers, aquariums, libraries, and other benefits that these cities have to offer. Yet, we are far enough away to enjoy the peacefulness of a mountain community. Our cozy three-bedroom home is nestled on an acre and a half in the redwoods. A creek runs through our back-yard, and there is plenty of space for a growing child to explore, build a tire swing, catch frogs, and collect banana slugs. We are within walking distance of the corner store and the elementary and middle schools. We enjoy going to community activities like art and crafts festivals and plays at the local school.

This is what Kitt says about Cyndi:

Cyndi is a strong, confident, competent, and intelligent person. She is warm, loving and caring. She is laid back when it's suitable and persistent when necessary. She is a balance and an anchor for my life.

Cyndi has a lively curiosity and gets to know people by understanding their backgrounds and perspective. She communicates and coordinates with ease. She involves herself in projects where she teaches, such as becoming a docent at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Cyndi recently spent the afternoon sharing the redwoods with our niece Kirstin. Kirstin was delighted with Cyndi's extra preparations - including colored pencils and paper hiding in her purse to draw a picture for Grandma.

Cyndi recently left the fast-paced world of high-tech to become a homemaker. Cyndi can conjure up a pumpkin soup so good that even people who dislike the ingredients love the soup. My co-workers envy the leftovers I bring to work for lunch. Cyndi also knits, swims, plays piano, rides her bike, and loves to learn new activities. She can't wait to be a stay-at-home mom and is looking forward to sharing what she has learned about the redwoods and local history with a growing child.

This is what Cyndi says about Kitt:

Kitt empathizes with people in all sorts of situations due to her thoughtful nature. She eagerly pitches in on a work crew or emergency situation. She is not afraid of physical labor or of getting her hands dirty when life is messy. She steers our joint volunteer efforts to work with an independent bookstore, a teacher's supply house, and Habitat for Humanity.

Kitt is an avid reader. Each year we give the children in our lives books for birthdays and holidays. As our oldest nephew has grown he and Kitt have enjoyed sharing and discussing some of their favorites with each other.

Kitt offers a calm and thoughtful problem-solving capability to any situation. She uses questions to provide gentle counsel in a non-threatening manner.

Our Family

We are lucky to have loving and supportive families and we enjoy spending time with them. Kitt's parents, brother, sisters and their families all live quite nearby. We stop by her parents' house to visit about once a week and often find the rest of the family there. It has been fun to watch and be involved with our niece and nephews as they grow. Cyndi's brother, their dad and his wife all live about an hour a hike, concert or to share a meal. We enjoy taking weekend trips to visit Cyndi's mom in southern California, where we get to catch up while relaxing in the pool. We also have lots of family less than a day's drive away, including Cyndi's grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Everyone is looking forward to welcoming a child into our family!

While we enjoy casual visits with family, we particularly look forward to sharing celebrations with them. We are with family for birthdays and most major holidays (and many minor ones, too).  We have merged our different religious backgrounds to create our own unique family traditions. As our family grows to include a child, we are looking forward to sharing these celebrations and creating new ones that honor his or her individual contribution to our family.

We think it is important for a child to be raised with grounding in a spiritual tradition. We plan to become familiar with our child's cultural traditions so that we may incorporate them into our own. Since we were enriched so much by our own spiritual and cultural experiences going to church and synagogue as children, we want to be able to offer a child a comfortable basis from which to explore all of his or her roots and allow for a respect for other traditions.

Leisure Time

One of our favorite ways to spend a summer afternoon is reading on our patio - Kitt prefers the sun, while Cyndi likes the shade of the redwoods. Our evenings are typically spent in conversation, playing card games or engrossed in a good book. We like to spend time outside. We visit local parks and enjoy them with hikes and bike rides. We are in the process of 'collecting' California state and national parks and have a goal of visiting as many of them as possible in order to experience the variety of natural environments.

We love to travel and have taken some spectacular vacations, including trips to Alaska, Puerto Rico, New England, Hawaii and Mexico. On each trip we like to balance relaxation time, exploration of nature and cultural history. A few years ago, we went to Mexico together with Kitt's whole family and had a great time swimming and teaching our nephews to dive for keys at the bottom of the pool. In Alaska, Puerto Rico and Hawaii we were able to take some really neat day hikes that allowed us to see more of the natural environment.

We love to spend time at our house and enjoy working on home improvement projects. Some of our personality differences come out in how we approach these projects. Recently, we decided that we wanted new ceiling fans. Cyndi did the research to decide what we wanted and went out to make the purchase. Meanwhile, Kitt researched out how to install them. They look and work great! A friend recently summed up our working partnership as 'Cyndi buys, Kitt installs. Kitt designs, Cyndi hires.' We are fortunate that this natural compatibility extends to all areas of our lives so that our household benefits from our separate personalities and abilities.

Our Friends

Our friends are very important to us and we like to work and play together. We help one another out with moves and special projects. The two of us are known as technical experts and often offer solutions to computer problems, including setting up a friend's internet bookstore and another's home office. A group of us also volunteer together regularly and enjoy the way our working styles combine to help the community. In addition, we frequently share a lively evening together with a potluck dinner and games.

There is so much that we want to share with our child and would like our child to grow up experiencing: reading, nature, languages, music, swimming, sailing, volunteering, magic tricks and juggling, theater, tae kwon do, hiking, travel, gardening, cooking.

We know all children bring something unique to their families and have talents and interests that are often different from their parents'. We'll do everything we can to recognize, revel in and encourage those gifts.

We would welcome the opportunity to share more about ourselves and our dreams with you, and hope you will share your hopes and desires for your baby.

Thank you again for taking the time to read our letter.  We would love to speak with you so that we have a chance to get to know one another better.
