Dear Expectant Mother,
We appreciate this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you! Our family consists of Laura, John, and our beautiful three year old daughter Veronica, whom we adopted at birth. We are very excited to again expand our family through adoption. We feel confident that we will provide all the love, attention, support and encouragement that a child needs. Thank you for considering us as parents for your baby.
Our family background
We met on our first day of classes at the University of Chicago. It was love at first sight, according to John, and we have been together ever since! We have just celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary. We have a very happy marriage based on love and respect for one another, and our shared interests. We both love family time, playing with our daughter, joking around, traveling, and doing all sorts of activities together.
John grew up in a big family in a suburb of New York. He has four brothers and a sister, all of whom have children. Our many nieces and nephews on John’s side of the family range in age from toddlers to college graduates.
Laura is originally from Michigan and is the middle of three sisters. Both of her sisters have young children, and Veronica loves it when we all get together so she can play with her cousins.
Although we’re spread out geographically, we manage to see our 14 nieces & nephews, our 7 brothers & sisters, and Grandparents often. Last summer we had a family reunion in New York with John’s family, and this summer Laura’s sisters and families got together in Michigan.
Our thoughts about open adoption
Veronica’s birthmother, Jenny, is in close contact with us, and we see her and her family several times a year, at birthdays & holidays. We consider Jenny to be part of our extended family. We feel it is important for Veronica to know about her birth – she knows she grew in Jenny’s tummy, and that we were there when she was born. We consider ourselves fortunate that Jenny is part of our lives. We welcome continued contact with you yet will respect and honor whatever level of contact that you feel most comfortable with.
Our home & community
We own a lovely home in a town just across the bay from San Francisco, where we have lived for 10 years. It’s about a five minute walk to the beach, which we go to frequently. Our house has plenty of room for kids to run around, and our back yard is perfect for outdoor games & events.
Our community is very family-oriented. We have good public schools nearby, nice parks, and a local swimming pool where Laura and John are volunteer lifeguards. Laura loves to swim, and Veronica does too. Veronica has been taking swimming lessons, and she’s taking to it like a fish to water! Laura is a certified lifeguard, and both Laura and John are trained in child CPR and safety.
We celebrate holidays in a big way! The town puts on a huge July 4th parade which goes right past our house, and we have friends & neighbors over to watch the parade and have a barbeque. At Halloween there are haunted houses and lots of trick-or-treaters on our street, and we dress up and give out enough candy to make a dentist cringe! At Christmas we have lots of visits from friends and family.
Our jobs & education
John is a trademark and copyright lawyer, and many of his clients are from the computer industry. John has made a successful career for himself. John started out with modest means, but through hard work and perseverance, he managed to pay his own way through both college, and then through law school.
Laura works part time, and has a job she enjoys as an art curator for a company in San Francisco. She manages the art in the corporate headquarters building, gives tours of the art collection, and changes the display of art work around the office buildings.
We are both college graduates and recognize the importance of education and the opportunities it can provide. We will encourage our child to pursue a college education and will be supportive of their individual talents and interests.
We consider our greatest and most important job, however, to be parents, and we both devote most of our time to raising our daughter and to family activities.
Our hobbies
Laura is a creative person, and enjoys making art of all sorts. She volunteers her time teaching kids and adults about art. She enjoys gardening, and plants fruits, vegetables, and grows plenty of beautiful flowers in our garden.
John likes doing home improvement projects and has done all the renovations on our house. John is known as “Mr. Fix-It” to our friends and is quite happy talking to the guys at our local hardware store, trying to figure out how to fix something around the house.
We both love to travel, and have visited many new places together, in the U.S. and around the world. We have brought Veronica with us on our travels since she was a baby. In Hawaii, we played on the beach, snorkeled and swam and had a great time. We look forward to exploring new places and sharing these experiences as a family.
Our daughter
Veronica is three years old, and she is a lively, happy girl. She is excited to have a brother or sister, and when we ask her what kind she wants, she answers that she wants a red one – her favorite color! She will be a great older sister. for any child, red, pink, or blue.
Our hope
We wish you well as you decide what is best for you and your child. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about us and we are excited to share more and get to know each other.
