Lisa and Russell

Dear Expectant Mother

We are Lisa and Russell. We realize your decision to consider adoption takes a great deal of strength and courage. You must have many thoughts and concerns and we wish to be supportive to you. We hope that this letter will help you to get to know a little bit about us and we look forward to getting to know you, as well. We are excited to become parents and share our love with a child. We are grateful that you would consider allowing us to welcome your child into our lives. We have been together for four years and are very much in love.

We met through an Internet dating site while Lisa lived in southern California and Russell lived in the San Francisco Bay area. We felt a strong connection upon meeting and spent the next year traveling back and forth on weekends to see each other. As our relationship and our love for each other grew, we realized we wanted the same things in life. Lisa moved to the Bay Area and we were married two years later. We come from different ethnic backgrounds, Caucasian and Asian, and both enjoy and share in the differences of our ethnicities and culture. We have tremendous respect for one another, great communication, and share the same quirky sense of humor.

We have an adorable Welsh terrier, Leo, who is just two years old. He is a fun loving dog and is fantastic around children. Some of our favorite pastimes are playing Frisbee with Leo, golf, badminton, and snow skiing.

Lisa

I was born in Indiana but grew up in Southern California. I have a brother and two sisters. My parents, younger sister, and older brother still live in the Los Angeles area, while my older sister is married with three children and lives in Virginia. While growing up, my mother was a preschool teacher and I often helped out in the summers. I realized then my love for children and the gift I have for teaching. My father is a retired Lutheran minister and our entire family was involved with church life. I cherish my loving family environment and I value the spiritual experiences that have enriched my life. I wish to pass on the same nurturing home life to our child. Some of my other interests are baking sweets, reading, gardening, and dog training. At Christmas time, I enjoy continuing my grandmother’s tradition of baking Danish Spritz cookies.

After graduating from California Lutheran University, I became an elementary school teacher and up until last year, I was a first grade teacher. I am currently pursuing my Masters degree in Counseling Psychology and plan be a stay-at-home mom once we become parents. During my career I have worked with children from many different ethnic backgrounds, and as a result, I have developed an interest in other cultures and languages. I appreciate and embrace the emphasis of family within all cultures. As a mother, I plan to share my love of learning and diversity.

I am a third generation Japanese-American, as my grandparents were from Japan. I was born in San Jose and have spent my entire life in California. Growing up, my family owned a flower nursery where we all had responsibilities and were involved in the business. I have a large extended family with many uncles, aunts and cousins. We feel fortunate to have my brother, his wife and two children and my sister, her husband and three daughters living nearby. Growing up, I was raised as a Jodo Shinshu Buddhist. I find all religions interesting and thought provoking.  I feel that I have an idealistic and optimistic view of the future.

I received my Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix and I currently work for a software company as an analyst. I enjoy my job and appreciate the teamwork and the communication that I share with my co-workers. In addition, it has been a great learning experience for me and I love the challenge of trouble shooting and improving the software process.

I have been involved in sports all my life. In high school and college I swam and played water polo. Later, I became interested in Badminton and I still train and compete in nation wide tournaments. I have also coached a number of high school sports such as volleyball, swimming and badminton.I am a long time fan of the Star Trek television and movie series.

Our Home

We live in Sunnyvale, California, in a three-bedroom home near parks and great schools. We are in the process of adding a large family room so a child will have more space to play and just be a kid   We love living in the Bay Area because the weather is great and we can enjoy the outdoors all year round. There are other great activities nearby such as hiking and golfing.  We feel it is important to give back to the community and have volunteered in a number of community projects like Habitat for Humanity, the Battered Women Network, and feeding the homeless.

Our Families

We are both blessed with large close-knit families that are very supportive of our plans to become parents through adoption. Our nieces and nephews are eager to play and grow up with a new cousin. An important part of our lives is to get together often with our family to celebrate and share in special occasions, birthdays, and holidays. We also have a number of close friends with youngchildren.  Some are adoptive parents who have shared their adoption stories with us. They have been very supportive and hope that we will soon be parents, as well.

Our Values and Dreams

We will provide a child with a loving supportive home, frequent hugs, words of praise and a positive outlook. We plan to be a team in parenting. Despite the fact that we are of different faiths, we are open and respectful of each other’s beliefs and we share the same philosophies of life.  We plan to raise a child with beliefs from both of our faiths. We will provide opportunities and give guidance to a child so that he or she can be successful in life and pursue his or her interests. Your child will always know that he or she is truly loved by you and that your decision was made out of love. We believe in open adoption and will look forward to a future relationship that will be comfortable for everyone.

Please feel free to call us directly, toll free at 1-866-796-3486 or call our friendly adoption attorney, Susan Romer, at 1-800-U-ADOPT-US (1-800-823.6788). Again, thank you for considering us as adoptive parents.

Follow your heart…
