Michael and Randi

Michael and Randi AdoptHello.

We appreciate you taking the time to read our letter.   We can only imagine what a difficult decision this is for you and hope that we can be a source of support to you. We have been unable to start a family biologically and look forward to creating our family through adoption. Family is very important to us and we want to share our love and lives with a child.  We are excited and little nervous about the process.   We hope this letter provide you with some information and insight as to who we are, as you decide what is best for you and your child.

A little about us

We are Randi and Michael.  We have been married for 5 1/2 years.  We met in March of 2000 while on vacation in Cancun, Mexico.  Michael lived in Atlanta, Georgia and Randi lived in San Jose, California.  Six months after we met, Michael moved to San Jose and we were married 2 years later.  That vacation definitely stands out as one of the best vacations ever.  We are best friends, we share common values and we respect and appreciate our similarities and differences.  We come from different backgrounds, which add to the richness of our relationship.  We love spending quality time together relaxing at home, listening to music, playing & watching sports and watching movies.

About Michael

Michael grew up in Beaumont, Texas and attended St. Edwards University in Austin Texas on a basketball scholarship.  After college he joined the Air Force where he served in Operation Desert Storm.  Michael attended Graduate School while in the Military and graduated with a Master's degree in Public Administration. He now works for a hospital as a Human Resources Recruitment Manager.

Michael is a proud father of his 15-year-old son, Andrew, from his previous marriage.  Michael and Andrew are very close and we get to see Andrew often even though he lives in another state.

About Michael (by Randi)

Michael is smart, honest, athletic, confident yet humble, sensitive and funny.  Since the first time we met, he has been a pleasure to be around. He is my best friend and I still love spending time with him.  Michael is also extremely generous.  I remember when he bought a lady and her child groceries full of necessities that she was unable to purchase on her own.  This is just one example of what a great person he truly is.  Michael loves sports, playing golf, reading and keeping up on current events.

Randi AdoptsAbout Randi

Randi looks forward to the opportunities, challenges and joys of motherhood.

About Randi (by Michael)

Randi is probably one of the most loyal and trusting people that you will ever meet.  She is funny, disciplined and loves spending time with family and friends.  Randi loves to work out with yoga, walking, or weight lifting.  Randi still loves tennis and plays on the weekend.  Randi also has a creative side and enjoys interior decorating, gardening and hosting parties.

Our Home

We live in one of the oldest and established neighborhoods in San Jose.  We live in a custom designed home that we re-built, which was completed in 2000.  We live across the street from one of San Jose's largest Municipal parks that is a great place for family oriented activities and events. The neighborhood has a strong sense of community and is filled with families of all ages.  One of our favorite events is Halloween as families bring their children to the neighborhood to trick or treat and we enjoy the festivities with our friends and neighbors.

Our Family

We are very close to our families.  We talk to at least one member of the family on a daily basis.  Michael's family is in Texas and Georgia and Randi's is in Illinois and Florida.  We spend every Thanksgiving with Randi's family in Illinois and spend at least a month every year with Michael's son who lives in Atlanta.  We plan on hiring a live in nanny to assist us with baby-sitting and have plenty of friends who are excited to help out.  Our child will grow up surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and a stepbrother.

Our Values and Beliefs or How We Approach Parenting

We both feel that a child should always know that he or she is loved unconditionally and that it is okay to make mistakes. We want to raise a child to be happy, curious, confident, loving and considerate. We will teach a child to care about other people and to care about the world.  We will be supportive so that he or she will be able to pick himself or herself up when things do not go well because they feel secure and believe in themselves. We feel that, as parents, our role is to help a child learn by encouragement, to be the best they can be, to try new things and to challenge Michael and Randi Raftingthemselves, while still providing guidance and support. We feel that our strong communication help us remain aligned as we face the challenges of parenting decisions.  We are very loving and giving individuals and want to raise a child who respect the rights of others and who respects themselves.  On the lighter side, we try not to take ourselves too seriously, as laughter has always been an important part of our lives.

We want to sincerely thank you allowing us to tell you about ourselves and why we are committed to expanding our family through adoption. You are a courageous person and we admire you.

Please feel free to contact us through our friendly adoption attorney, Susan Romer at 1-800-U-Adopt-Us or via e-mail at adamsromer@aol.com.

Sincerely,
Michael and Randi
