Sabine and Susannah

Dear Expectant Mother,

We are Sabine and Susannah and we appreciate you taking the time to read our letter. We respect your courage and generosity in considering adoption. We have chosen open adoption as a way to grow our family and welcome maintaining a relationship with you.

About Us
We are a loving and committed couple. We have been together for five years and held a commitment ceremony in 2003 to honor our and respect for each other. We are surrounded by loving and supportive friends and family. Our family lives close by and is eagerly awaiting the arrival of its newest member. We live in Santa Cruz, California, just a two hours south of San Francisco, with our two dogs, Cashmere and Kai. Our family includes Sabine’s thirteen year old son, Sean, who lives with us throughout the year and with his father in Washington during the summers.

Living on the Pacific coast gives us a feeling of peace and a connection with nature. We spend time exploring many beaches, tide pools and towns along the coast with Sean and our two dogs. Our idea of fun involves spending time together outdoors, learning together and travel. We all look forward to raising a child with whom to share our love of animals and nature.

Sabine by Susannah
Sabine is easygoing, thoughtful and confident. She is also incredibly grounded, always responding calmly to emergencies and takes on the biggest projects as if they were small tasks. She is very supportive and a devoted partner who focuses on providing a comfortable home for her family.

Sabine was born and raised in Germany and was the middle of five siblings. She loves having a large family with many children and pets around. She grew up next to the Black Forest, in which she and her friends and sibling would play and explore. Because of this, she has a great love of the outdoors and nature. She also loves to build and does remodeling as a hobby. She once built her own house from the ground up on a 20 acre farm in Fresno! She sold this and we now own two houses: our dream home in Santa Cruz and a three acre small farm property in Washington.

Professionally, Sabine is Vice President of a video game company in San Mateo. One of the only executive women on that level in her field, Sabine has accomplished a great deal! I am very proud of the way she can combine her business sense with her natural artistic ability to produce thoughtful and challenging video games.

Susannah by Sabine
Susannah is an intelligent, creative woman with many talents. She is a great soccer player, a talented cook, a gifted artist and a wonderful teacher. Susannah grew up in Stanford, California where her father was a professor of English and Philosophy. Her family traveled abroad throughout her childhood so she speaks French and knows a little German. Susannah and I share a love of language and we often speak German at home. Along with a love of culture, Susannah loves to cook foods from all around the world. A former cook in Seattle restaurants, Susannah is a natural chef and we love to reap the benefits of her interest! She cooks wonderful Thai, French, Italian, Indian and just about any food there is!

Susannah is Director of an international preschool at Stanford University, called The Rainbow School. Her school is an inspiration with children from all over the world learning together, like a little United Nations! Susannah is eager to provide an enriching, supportive and loving home for a child of her own one day soon. She looks forward to having her own preschooler enrolled in her program!

Sean
Sean is the youngest of Sabine’s three biological sons from a previous marriage. He loves to spend time with his olders brothers who are both in college. He is now 13 and loves to care for younger children. Sean shares our passion for nature and animals and spends much of his time on lakes and rivers fishing. Sean has Cherokee heritage from his father and German heritage from his mother.

A Great Home for A Child!
We spend a lot of our time remodeling our dream home, a beautiful 5 bedroom house in a forested canyon. We are especially proud of the bamboo floors Sabine installed to add to the overall indoor-outdoor feel. We also have two mellow, good natured dogs who love children.

We feel that our home is a great place to raise a child, having an excellent elementary school just blocks away. There is also a state park, play ground and hiking trails within a block. We love the combination of our country-like setting with cows for neighbors and the convenience of suburbia and beaches nearby. We have a creek in our back yard and lots of open space for a child to run and play and explore.

Our Village
We feel fortunate to have a large extended family who is supportive of our adoption plans Susannah’s parents who live nearby, are eager to help with a new grandchild. We enjoy Sunday dinners with the family which also include Susannah’s sister. Susannah's brother and his wife live in New York and have two children who are excited for a new cousin.

In Closing
We believe that our values of family, nature and children are visible in all that we do and that we can provide a truly great life for a child. We would love to expand our small family, and to nurture and support a child together. We will provide unconditional love, full community support and a strong sense of security to child who enters our lives.
