Sona and Dan

Dear Birthmother,

We are Dan and Sona, and we truly appreciate that you are taking the time to read our letter.  We believe that considering adoption is a difficult and courageous decision made out of love for your precious baby.  We hope through this letter we are able to show you a little of our lives and give you an idea of the loving, secure and happy family we would provide for your baby.

About Us

We live in the San Gabriel Valley area of Southern California. We’ve been together for 17 years and married for over ten.  We often joke that we have “grown up” together into adulthood!  Happily, our love is strong and each year that passes is more wonderful than the last.  We have an amazing friendship, are supportive and encouraging of each other, and still enjoy laughing and having fun together! We’re both self-employed with flexible schedules and are very excited about having the time to parent together. Our dogs, Charlie and Henry, and our cats, Sammy and Dino, can hardly wait to have a little one around the house too!

Dan is thrilled to make a living doing what he loves, being a professional musician. When Dan is not practicing his many musical instruments for the jazz and big bands in which he plays, sings, and manages, he is very handy around the house.

Sona says about Dan: I love that Dan is loving and creative. We are compatible in many ways, especially our sense of humor and life values.  He can always be relied on to be comforting and encouraging.  Our family will always feel well cared for and safe with Dan. He has so much to offer a child I know he’ll make a fabulous father!

Sona is a psychotherapist who enjoys cooking and has just started learning to knit.   Although Sona has a passion for being able to help people she can’t wait to be a mom! Sona plans to take time away from her therapy practice to give her full attention to motherhood.

Dan says about SonaSona is such a sweet, wonderful wife.  She’s very good to me. Sona is fun loving, honest and caring. She has created a warm and loving home for us that is always open to friends and family. Sona is my best friend and a good balance for me in numerous ways.  I know when it comes to being a mom she’ll be a “natural.”

Family

Dan’s background is Italian and Sona’s is Armenian.  We were both born and raised in the Los Angeles area so we are lucky to have family nearby.  Both of our families are quite large with lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins. We meet for birthdays, holidays, dinners, or just to spend a Saturday afternoon playing outdoors with our nieces and nephews.  Our family is supportive of our adoption plans and our parents are truly excited to welcome a new grandchild into the family!

Our Home

We live in a lovely residential area with mountain views, trees, and access to hiking trails.  Our neighborhood is a wonderful mix of families with small children and older children as well as retired folks.  We have lovingly cared for our 1930 Tudor style home, which has a lot of old charm and character, and a beautiful backyard. Dan is an ace gardener and has created a lot of the landscaping. Sona loves to cook and share her homemade treats with others.  She also has a weekly “date” with her niece and nephew and is thrilled that the baby will be a part of this wonderful Saturday tradition.

How We Spend Our Days

Our flexible work schedules give us time to enjoy each other’s company doing such things as riding bikes on the weekends, going to the beach, hiking and camping.  Spending time together is important to both of us.  Many times we will make dinners together or just go for coffee and talk.  We also like to travel and we were thrilled this year to take a trip to Italy to celebrate our tenth anniversary! We enjoy listening to a variety of music and almost always have something playing in the home.  Dan is really looking forward to introducing his love of music to our child.

Our Dreams for Our Family

We have always wanted to be parents and raise a family, but had to put that dream on hold because of infertility.  In the end, our choice to create our family through open adoption was deeply personal. We believe that God has placed in our hearts the desire to create our family through adoption and we wholeheartedly look forward to opening our hearts to a child! Our wish for you is that you find adoptive parents who will be the best fit for you and your baby.  Please know that we will provide the most secure, loving and happy home for your child.
