Tim and Rick
We are Rick and Tim, two men who are in love and are deeply committed to each other and passionate about raising a family together. Since our first meeting we have always talked about our desire to be parents, which has been a strong bond between us. We are very excited to start our family through open adoption and we want to share our love, values, and talents with a child. We realize that your situation is a difficult one, and we want you to know that we will be as supportive as we possibly can during this time and in the future. About Us We met on the dance floor three years ago and fell in love with each other immediately. Since we both have extensive backgrounds in music, it remains very important to us and music in its various forms and styles fills our home; classical, jazz, pop, classic rock and dance music. Since our meeting, we have developed a strong relationship based on mutual respect and admiration, kindness towards each other, commitment, communication and humor! Our home is often filled with laughter and our sense of humor ranges from sharp witted to goofy. We often play word games with each other and spontaneously make up funny stories. We love the theatre and the arts. We often go to stage shows and museums and are very fortunate to live in San Francisco, which is great for both. We read a lot but do not watch too much television. Instead, we like to rent DVDs of new movies and old classics. Outside activities are very important to us, too. We go out as often as possible to our many neighborhood parks that have great hiking and biking trails and love taking our two dogs to Golden Gate Park where they run like crazy. We also enjoy traveling to places that have great activities such as skiing in Lake Louise, Canada and Lake Tahoe, California, and snorkeling in Hawaii, Mexico, and Tahiti.
I was born and raised on a beautiful lake in Michigan, the youngest of four children. My two sisters live in Chicago and Albuquerque, New Mexico. My brother, who has two children, is still in Michigan and my parents have retired to Illinois. When I was a kid, my family went to a Protestant church, where I developed my interest in music and began to study piano and saxophone. I still play the piano every day and create some original tunes. I was also very involved in theatre, which has remained a hobby. Although, I went to college to pursue music, I also had a strong interest in teaching and medicine. So for a while, I taught junior high and high school music and science before entering medical school. But it was in medical school where I was exposed to children suffering from emotional problems, which led me to become a child psychiatrist. I am currently on the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco, and teach doctors about children’s emotional problems and development. I'm really excited about raising a child with Rick and will decrease my work hours when the baby arrives!
I was born and raised in Southern California. Actually, on my father’s side of the family, which is Hispanic, I’m 6th generation Californian. My mother is Caucasian and is from Indiana. At first, I was an only child. But then my parents divorced when I was 11 and after a couple of years my father remarried and I instantly had a new stepbrother and sister and stepmother. Then, when I was seventeen, my dad and stepmother had a baby girl and immediately I started helping out; feeding her, changing diapers, and of course, playing with her. It was then that I knew that I wanted to be a parent one day! Theater, music, and foreign languages have always been very important to me and as a kid, I studied the piano and was always involved in school plays and musicals. I’ve also had a passion for food and have always dreamed of having my own restaurant. So when I was 12, I started cooking in a restaurant and continued restaurant work until I finished college at Georgetown University. Then, I settled into a career of massage therapy and personal fitness training for a number of years and filled my passion for music by being a part-time DJ. I was happy, but I still dreamed of being a parent and having my own restaurant. Now, having been with Tim for almost four years, I am in chef school at the California Culinary Academy and we’re starting our family together! I will finish my studies this summer and will be working nights. This should be perfect for raising a child, since I will be home during the day and Tim will be home in the evening. I’m very excited to start a family through adoption and my whole family is very supportive of me and Tim becoming parents. My mom, who also lives in San Francisco, will always be nearby.
We have a beautiful home in one of the nicest neighborhoods in San Francisco. We have 3 bedrooms with a wonderful backyard, a view of the city, and we are within walking distance to several neighborhood parks. We have 2 dogs, Reeko and Leidee, (who loves kids) and a cat named Bamboo. We get compliments from our friends as to how well the dogs behave and they are very good around children. We love to go to the nearby San Francisco waterfront, Fisherman’s Wharf, museums, and the Exploratorium which is a great hands-on science museum for kids. And, all of our friends and neighbors are all very supportive of us being dads!
As parents, we will teach compassion, honesty, fairness and a solid work ethic. We will encourage a child to pursue what he or she has an interest in or passion for. We both believe in education and a child will have the opportunity to attend a school that is challenging, yet nurtures creativity and talent. We want a child to learn the importance of taking care of both the mind and the body. We are both very spiritual with a profound belief in God. We will raise a child to respect humanity and nature and will teach him or her solid principles of living. Thank you for taking the time to read about us. We want you to know that we will love your baby with both our hearts and make sure he or she is always well taken care of. If you would like to contact us, please feel free to call us at 1-800-883-1970 directly or call our friendly adoption attorney, Susan Romer at 1-800-U-ADOPT-US (1-800-823-6788). Warmly, Tim and Rick
